Synopsis

“Night is Day: The Movie” is an exciting brand new Scottish superhero movie set in Glasgow from Silly Wee Films. Filming is under way with a Summer 2011 release marked! “Night is Day – The Movie” stars Chris Summers, John Gaffney, Steven McEwan, Clare Sheppard, Tam Toye, Mark Harvey, Kirsty Anderson, Nicki Fleming, Alexandra Mackenzie, Elaine C Smith, Colin McCredie and Simon Weir.

“Jason Mackenzie (Chris Summers) is a twenty-something Glaswegian who spends his days keeping his city safe, using the powers bestowed on him by a demon. Against a backdrop of vibrant nightlife, cultural wonder and the realities of urban existence, Jason has battled ancient demons and hooded cults, corrupt businessmen and ASBO teens, risking his safety and sacrificing his chances of genuine human connections.

Jason Mackenzie has become a hidden hero; a rumour, an urban myth.

DCI Charles Sloan (John Gaffney) is a veteran in the police force who knows the truth behind the whispered tales. He has had his own encounters with supernatural entities, demons and vampires, and knows first-hand the work of the ‘lightning vigilante’.

Night is Day The Movie - The CopsNow there is a new danger in the city: the Caillech, an ancient creature portrayed in legend as wielding an unstoppable hammer, bent on wreaking havoc after centuries of exile. Teamed with a former adversary of Jason’s (Tam Toye), whose phony contrition has many fooled, the Caillech is a formidable threat to the peace Jason struggles to maintain.

In Night Is Day: The Movie, Jason must focus all his powers on discovering the Caillech’s intentions and defeating her before she decimates his city. He must ensure the safety of DCI Sloan and his team, who are determined to play their part in helping Jason despite the increased danger they face as mere humans. And he must find out what’s so important about Lena, a medical student he saved from a vicious attack, and who seems to have an uncanny connection with the Caillech.”

Produced by Lindsay Dowell and Gavin Orr of Goldray Productions, Co-produced by Andrew Dougall’s FK1 Productions, written and directed by Fraser Coull.

Night is Day The Movie has wrapped principle photography! We spent Saturday 28th of August in Airth, in Falkirk, filming dramatic scenes between Jason and his long-lost uncle, Alex Mackenzie who has a deep family secret hidden from Jason.

We then proceeded to Glasgow City Centre to film an action scene between Jason, the vampire Lexi and the villainous assassin Frank Stone, who is played by Mark Harvey.

Be sure to check out the photos by clicking this link. If you’ve not already done so you can see the official Night is Day Movie trailer by clicking on this link.

Next week will see the beginning of post production with the film being edited by Fraser Coull and Lindsay Dowell before being sent off for special effects, sound design and music.

Collectormania went very well. We met Chris Barrie and Danny John-Jules (Rimmer and Cat from Red Dwarf), Sylvester McCoy (7th Doctor from Doctor Who) and Dominic Keating (Malcolm Reed in Star Trek: Enterprise) all watched the trailer and supported the project.

We were also interviewed by Reel Scotland – which you can see now at http://www.reelscotland.com/?p=5667

Weekend 7 is now complete. What a hectic weekend of filming! We’ve only got 4 filming days left and then it’s time to sit down and edit the actual movie. We shot a lot of green screen shots this weekend and I can’t wait to see the completed shots.

In the meantime check out the latest episode of Night is Day: Confidential by clicking this link.

Weekends 5 and 6 are now officially wrapped. Lots more scenes have been filmed and you can take a look at the production stills by clicking this link. We’ve only got 5 filming days left on the movie between now and August and then we carry on with the editing of the movie. Once the edit is locked down it will be sent off for special effects, music and sound effects.

Our visual effect supervisor Mathew Crisp has been up visiting the set to ensure we get the shots that will work in post production and it’s our hope that the movie will be scored by an orchestra under the guidance of Philip Martin.

We still require sponsors for the movie so if you want to help us please visit http://www.sillyweefilms.co.uk/moviesponsors.htm

Weekend 5 is coming up and we can announce that upcoming singer/songwriter Rachel Sermanni will be performing the official theme tune of the movie with composer Philip Martin. Glasgow band Echofela will also feature on the soundtrack. Exciting times! We’ve also contacted the Edinburgh Film Festival regarding the premiere of the movie next year. Hopefully we’ll see you all at Edinburgh in 2011!

Weekend 4 is now wrapped! It was a hectic shoot with two long days of filming – mostly involving three scavenger demons, meaning our visual FX guru Leigh Butler worked his magic on Sean Clancy, our fight director, and Sean Anderson who is one of the three actors playing the ferocious scavenger demons.

On Saturday we filmed the director’s flat for a scene between Jason (Chris Summers) and Lena (Kirsty Anderson) after he saves her from being attacked by demons. After a break we moved on to the Botanic Gardens for the third and final time of the shoot to shoot the previous scenes when Jason is trying to protect Lena. Our Assistant Director, Adam Wardrop, took over the shoot of the fight scene as Sean Clancy staged the fight for us.

On the Sunday we went to the Caledonia Club House in Falkirk where Leigh brought in a few makeup assistants to work on three scavenger demon’s makeup and our villain, The Caillech. The majority of the cast was present as we filmed most of our final scenes and our last fight scene for the movie, using a crane and jib to create some spectacular shots.

We will add a link to new photos as soon as possible but for now check out the behind the scenes video blogs by Artist Media Ltd at this page and this page.

Next weekend’s filming will see someone falling off a warehouse roof and our hero getting a severe whooping in a fight against Frank Stone (Mark Harvey)!

Thanks to the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow for sponsoring the movie by providing us with props.

Weekend 3 is now complete! It was a tired, knackering day filming in Muse night club with around 30 extras throwing themselves around the club as the earthquake marked the arrival of the sinister Caillech! Well done to everybody involved. Photos are available at http://www.rebelphotoart.co.uk/Music-Shows/Night-Is-Day-The-Movie/12673724_mkgJn#917987525_KByDa

Weekend 2 is now in the can! We’ve filmed a further 8 scenes of the movie with locations such as The Botanic Gardens being just some of them. We’ve had demons, gun fights, superheroes fighting super villains and Elaine C Smith coming on board to play Inspector Rebecca Munro’s mum. We also had the amazing Cat Joss come in to film some of her scenes as The Caillech and her makeup is just brilliant – but we will not be releasing ANY publicity shots of her just yet!
